The Library of the present-day Department of the Italian Institute of Oriental Studies (ISO) was founded in 1904, alongside the establishment of the Oriental School.
Over the years, administrative changes within the Department of Oriental Studies and the creation of the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the Via Principe Amedeo location (former Caserma Sani) led to several reorganizations.
Since 2016, the library has been reunified at the Marco Polo building, located at Circonvallazione Tiburtina, 4. This new location features:
- A spacious reading room with 168 seats
- Full-service access during all opening hours
- H24 Sapienza study room, with extended hours until midnight and weekend access
